Citron Clair - Light Fixture
This two week lighting design project was to be inspired by a chef. Claire Saffitz is a dessert and pastry chef who creates meaningful and unique things. I designed and fabricated a hanging light fixture that was representative of a peeling orange. Saffitz often uses citrus in her desserts, as seen in her many cookbooks, so I found it appropriate to allude to the fact.

Process
I began by sketching my initial concept, and then began to think about the materials. I made a paper mache type mixture for the shade. Using yarn, and tissue paper to resemble the interior of an orange. I then used sheets of basswood which were soaked in hot water to then be able to be bent and molded into the shape of the “peel”. The lantern rested inside the curved wood.
